[3/16/2015] - The New York City Health Department has developed an interactive online learning module entitled, Treating Tobacco Use to enhance provider knowledge on how to effectively assess, counsel and treat tobacco use. As the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S., we as health care professionals are in a prime position to help our patients successfully quit tobacco, while simultaneously lowering their risk of heart disease, stroke, COPD and other diseases.

Goldberg, DO, dean of the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine-NY, will receive the Dr. Stephen Levin Award for significant achievement in the care and treatment of injured workers at the Centennial Conference of the New York State Workers Compensation Board. The conference, which is sponsored by the International Workers Compensation Foundation, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, NY. more
FOURTH DO DAY IN ALBANY A SUCCESS!
[5/9/2014] - More than 40 osteopathic medical students, residents and practicing physicians from throughout New York State gathered in Albany on May 6, armed with pride in the profession and NYSOMS' legislative agenda.
At the end of the day, they were given a "shout-out" in both the Senate and Assembly chambers, in honor of Gov. Cuomo declaring April 13-19 as"Osteopathic Medicine Week" in New York State. more

NYSOMS POSTER COMPETITION A TIGHT RACE
[3/11/2014] - This year for the first time, NYSOMS' Annual Intern/Resident/Fellow Poster Competition, held in conjunction with ROC-NY, added a category for student research. Ten students competed in what turned out to be a very tight race. There were also 15 intern/resident research entries and 51 intern/resident case entries. SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS INDIVIDUAL MANDATE
[6/28/2012] - Kaiser Health News reports that the U.S. Supreme Court today upheld the landmark federal health law, affirming its mandate that nearly all Americans carry coverage and retaining sweeping changes to the health industry.
Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. joined the liberals on the court in upholding the mandate, deciding the penalty for not carrying insurance is a tax and therefore falls within Congress taxing power. But the justices voted to set limits on the laws expansion of Medicaid, the federal state program for the poor, leaving up to states to decide whether to participate. more
